how do Views work?

I'm just wondering if you posted a picture of a creature online if the creature gets views. Like, not the clickable pics but just a pic.

If you use a bb code (it creatures a picture) then you'll get a view every time but if you just screenshot/printscreen and post that then you won't get anything from it.
